ParticipantLooking further around I found this forum thread:
https://support.gentlemencoders.com/forums/topic/sync-changes-between-mac-and-ipad-via-files/which suggests a multi computer workflow is not currently supported. It does hint that perhaps it is/was in the works. Any word on when this feature might land?

Participant@thewildrover I read through your forum thread here:
https://support.gentlemencoders.com/forums/topic/crop-causes-blank-preview-bug/I believe my problem is similar to what you reported with the exception that I am experiencing this on a Mac. The corruption manifests as a totally blank preview or image, partially blank image or preview or as a “psychedelic” preview or image from time to time as well.

Participant@thewildrover, interesting. I recall that occurring in earlier versions for me. Clicking another photo and coming back always seemed to fix the issue so I never really thought much about it. I will add my images typically come from a Nikon (D7000) but from time to time I also edit iPhone images as well. And, I am using the File Browser to avoid being messed up by Apple (ie: Aperture mess).
On a side note, it would be wonderful if the File Browser could be integrated with the Photo Library.

ParticipantInteresting observation, when I click from a “good” image to the “suspect” image, I see the image appear in the viewer briefly, and then it goes completely black. When I opened the file in Preview, is briefly showed the entire image and then about 90% of the image went black.
As reported earlier, if I open the image with Affinity Photo and then close Affinity Photo without developing or otherwise editing the image … I can click on the image in Raw Power and it is not all black anymore. Similarly, I can open it in Preview fine now as well. I surmise Apple Raw is creating a temporary working image and somehow that is what is being corrupted. Somehow, opening the image with Affinity Photo causes the temporary file to be invalidated or otherwise discarded by Apple Raw.

ParticipantI have noticed corruption at other times as well. I started editing an image, then clicked another image before clicking “done”, realized I had done that and clicked back to the original image. I clicked “done” and then went to the second image but now the second image loads almost entirely black. In this case, the thumbnail is fine and the image is the corrupted element. I am thinking this is some sort of problem with Apple Raw processing … maybe some kind of race condition and the “working copy” of the image or thumbnail gets messed up.

ParticipantI do not seem to be able to add a Smart Folder to Raw Power. Can this be done?

ParticipantAlso, is it possible to use spotlight to search Ratings? I tried to do this but it doesn’t seem to return any results.

ParticipantI ran into a similar issue that I am wondering about. I imported a bunch of 2020 photos from my SD card onto my mac. I then used Raw Power to do some processing and enhancement and apply some ratings. I have found that the filters in Raw Power only work on the selected folder and it is not possible to select multiple folders. So, I thought to try to create a Finder smart folder and filter them based on Rating. When I create the smart folder in Finder, there is a search attribute named “Rating” but that doesn’t seem to pick up any of the photos I rated in Raw Power. So, I surmise from the message above that the ratings that Raw Power creates are not the same as the “Rating” attribute use by Spot Light / Finder. It would be great if there could be some way to synchronize the Raw Power rating with Finder Rating search attribute.

ParticipantAlso, if you could apply a Finder tag from within the Raw Power viewer, that would be great too.

ParticipantStill evaluating my “new” workflow and another feature request comes to mind. Is there some way to integrate with another photo editor? For example, Aperture or Affinity Photo? There are some things I cannot do in Raw Power at the moment (blemish removal, healing, etc). So, I would like to round trip to another application and come back to Raw Power if that is possible. It would be cool if you could do some edits in Raw Power, drill into another application from Raw Power and make some edits, come back to Raw Power and the edits are applied (non destructively) to what you see in Raw Power. So, in essence, be able to apply the Raw Power edits and the third party edits and view them all in Raw Power. Kind of like the idea that the third party app is a plug in. Kind of like what Photos does. I suppose you would need to work with Apps that had side cars and an API for rendering their edits.
I do not think it is possible at the moment but I thought I would put the idea out there as you consider future ideas.

ParticipantIs there any way to tell Finder to use Raw Power to render the Finder thumbnails? If I perform some edits in Raw Power, the Finder thumbnail does not update to reflect the edits and I was wondering if there was a way to affect that.

ParticipantI think my problem was not exiting edit mode. Thanks for the tip!
I created a smart folder that filtered by tag in finder but I could not add it to the locations side bar.

ParticipantOk, I am a little embarrassed. I can export as a batch … I just figured that one out.

ParticipantThanks for all the additional information. Maybe we need to stage another “moment” for the senior team at Apple … similar to what happened when the transition from FCP to FCPX was messed up. I still do not think the Apple team comprehend how much value in the brand they have destroyed. You know, I could not care less about the services stuff. It is nice, but at the end of the day, I can live without it. We all want to be creative … I still think that is what attracts users to the ecosystem. The quality of what I create in the ecosystem is what makes me so enthusiastic about it.
I will keep looking further for a solution. If I can be of any help, let me know.
