Still evaluating my “new” workflow and another feature request comes to mind. Is there some way to integrate with another photo editor? For example, Aperture or Affinity Photo? There are some things I cannot do in Raw Power at the moment (blemish removal, healing, etc). So, I would like to round trip to another application and come back to Raw Power if that is possible. It would be cool if you could do some edits in Raw Power, drill into another application from Raw Power and make some edits, come back to Raw Power and the edits are applied (non destructively) to what you see in Raw Power. So, in essence, be able to apply the Raw Power edits and the third party edits and view them all in Raw Power. Kind of like the idea that the third party app is a plug in. Kind of like what Photos does. I suppose you would need to work with Apps that had side cars and an API for rendering their edits.
I do not think it is possible at the moment but I thought I would put the idea out there as you consider future ideas.
sslupskyParticipantIs there any way to tell Finder to use Raw Power to render the Finder thumbnails? If I perform some edits in Raw Power, the Finder thumbnail does not update to reflect the edits and I was wondering if there was a way to affect that.
sslupskyParticipantI think my problem was not exiting edit mode. Thanks for the tip!
I created a smart folder that filtered by tag in finder but I could not add it to the locations side bar.
sslupskyParticipantOk, I am a little embarrassed. I can export as a batch … I just figured that one out.
sslupskyParticipantThanks for all the additional information. Maybe we need to stage another “moment” for the senior team at Apple … similar to what happened when the transition from FCP to FCPX was messed up. I still do not think the Apple team comprehend how much value in the brand they have destroyed. You know, I could not care less about the services stuff. It is nice, but at the end of the day, I can live without it. We all want to be creative … I still think that is what attracts users to the ecosystem. The quality of what I create in the ecosystem is what makes me so enthusiastic about it.
I will keep looking further for a solution. If I can be of any help, let me know.
sslupskyParticipantThank you for the feedback. I suppose this information suggests my search for a DAM solution is not over. Photos will not work. I was hoping some sort of hybrid filesystem and photos solution would have materialized by now. Rats. Such short sightedness on Apple’s part. Apple really is an enigma. So much effort has gone into helping to take a really great photo … and then practically no effort to support doing anything with the photo. It is as if they have forgotten that photography is an artistic creative work.
Maybe back to my earlier suggestion. Just a folder on an apfs volume with the photos contained there. I would need a way to migrate my Aperture libraries to folders of files and the XMP sidecar files and use RP for my workflow.
sslupskyParticipantOne question comes to mind. I have quite a few photos across several Aperture managed libraries. Will I be able to convert those to those to individual reference libraries using photos?
sslupskyParticipantThat sounds like a promising upgrade path. I will definitely hold off upgrading until RP 3 is out.
Thank you for the feedback.
