I’m sorry you are encountering performance issues with the app and your Mac. RAW Power uses the GPU almost entirely which can be an issue for older Macs. In addition, Apple has introduced a new GPU library called “Metal” which sometimes has issues on older hardware. (mouse freezing is an indication that the GPU is overloaded)
Please try the following. Step 1 is to disable Metal.
1) Go into RAW Power > Preferences
2) Switch the GPU to OpenGL:
3) Important: Quit and reopen RAW Power. If that doesn’t address the issue, please switch the CPU / GPU export setting in Preferences.
Using the CPU for export further decreases the work the GPU has to do.
I hope this helps.
–NikNik BhattKeymasterI appreciate your concern – as I continue to add features, it can be hard to keep the simplicity of the original version. However, I tried hard to keep the “raw” simplicity of the editor, even in 2.0. For example, though there is a full file browser, thumbnail grid, etc. you can still just use File > Open to quickly edit and export an image. That will continue in 3.0 as well.
Nik BhattKeymasterThanks for your suggestions.
The 3.0 release of RAW Power will be focused on brushing, ratings / tagging / flagging, queries, and support for Photos library on Mac.
That’s a lot of work, so I won’t be taking on keywords in that release. However, keywords are definitely on the near-term roadmap.
Some of the other ones may make it in 3.0 – not sure yet. Keywords not showing in the info area: that’s a simple thing to add. I’ll make a note to put that in 3.0.

Nik BhattKeymasterYou are right, version 2.0 lacks ratings, etc. Version 3.0 will have ratings, tags, flagging, and filtering.
The data is stored in the application sandbox, so it will get backed up by any program that backs up the home folder. I just double-checked by going into Time Machine and accessing (Home)/Library/Containers/com.gentlemencoders.RAWPower. All of the document data was there.
I plan to add an export function to make it easier to archive this data in the future.
Nik BhattKeymasterI’m sorry you’re running into this problem. Do you have any ideas about what might lead to the problem (certain images, or anything like that [other than Recovery sometimes])?
If you run into it again, you might try going to the menu in the upper left corner and resetting adjustments and then hitting Done. That will clear the state and will probably avoid the spinner issue you are seeing. Not sure though.
Nik BhattKeymasterHi,
I’m glad you like the app. Version 3.0 is underway and will have a ton of new features. As far as working directly with the Photos library, unfortunately, Apple does not currently allow that on Mac. It’s possible they will add it in the future – when they do, I will support it in the standalone version of RAW Power.
Nik BhattKeymasterHi Tom,
If you are referring to the RAW Images album, then it can take a little while to finish loading. However, it should not take anywhere like 10 minutes for 30 RAWs. I have received a couple of reports like yours, but we have never seen this issue on our own devices, so I have been unable to fix it.
I would love to get to the bottom of this bug. You can certainly delete and reinstall the app to see if that works. However, if it doesn’t, and you would like to work together on this bug, I can send you some test builds to see why the app is getting stuck. Please email me (I know you have emailed me separately about beta testing) if you’d like to do that.
Thanks and sorry about the bug.
Nik BhattKeymasterHi,
The standalone version of RAW Power for Mac does not have any synching functionality at this time. The Mac Photos extension can sync through iCloud, because it is integrated with the Photos library. Unfortunately, Apple does not provide a way (currently) for standalone apps to integrate with the Photos library. Sorry.
Nik BhattKeymasterRAW Power does not have a generic plugin function. However, it does support Lightroom. You can download the Lightroom plugin by going to the downloads page: https://support.gentlemencoders.com/downloads/
Nik BhattKeymasterHi Vlado,
Thanks for the suggestion. On iOS, there is already the ability to reorder adjustments (in the menu in the upper left corner of Edit). You cannot totally hide adjustments, but you can collapse them by tapping on the titles.
Mac doesn’t have the reorder feature, but it’s planned for 3.0. I also hope to add a hide feature as well, but am not sure yet.
By hybrid app, if you mean using Apple’s Marzipan technology, then no. However, RAW Power on iOS and Mac share a lot of code.
Nik BhattKeymasterThat should not be happening, but there could be a bug in the app. If you can please email support@gentlemencoders.com, we can troubleshoot it.
Thanks.
Nik BhattKeymasterWhen you view a RAW photo in RAW Power, the initial appearance may not match the final appearance. This is because the initial image is a JPEG generated by the camera. A subsequent image is generated by decoding the RAW. Decoders do not generally attempt to match the camera JPEG in appearance, but instead strive to make the best looking image they can.
You may not see this shift in other apps because most of them use an Import procedure that replaces the camera JPEG with one created by their decoder. This avoids the shift, but takes a lot longer and uses more disk space. For example, Photos and Lightroom both do this, though you can still see the difference if you view the imported image before they have a chance to replace the camera JPEG. RAW Power does not do this, both to make viewing images faster and to decrease the disk space used by the app.
Nik BhattKeymasterMy plan is to release 3.0 for both iOS and Mac toward the end of the year, after Apple releases the new versions of macOS and iOS.
Brushing is planned for 3.0. I have been posting progress on Twitter recently. Here are links to those tweets:

If you use twitter, you may want to follow @gentcoders as I plan to post other progress as well.
Nik BhattKeymasterLens Correction comes from Apple’s RAW engine and it only supports a subset of the cameras. Apple’s code relies on information stored in the metadata of the RAW file, which isn’t always present (and there are probably some other limitations of their code as well).
Generally, DSLRs aren’t supported by Apple’s lens correction, while fixed lens cameras (e.g., Sony RX 100) and many Micro 4/3rds are.
I hope to add a more general lens correction feature to the app, but I don’t have a time table for that at this point.
Nik BhattKeymasterHi,
Thanks for buying the apps; I’m surprised that the sync is working for some devices but not others. The apps themselves don’t do any of the synching – they just store data in the photo library and Apple takes care of synching it through iCloud Photo Library (in other words, the apps mostly don’t know that iCloud Photo Library even exists [except for knowing that images have to be downloaded]).
Do edits you make on the iPhone get sent to the other devices?
Also, I wonder if there is something “stuck” that is causing the iPhone to not get the right data. I suggest the following:
1) On a device other than the iPhone, use the built-in Photos app (not RAW Power) and pick one of the photos that’s not working.
2) Edit > Revert to Original
3) Then, make an edit with that same Photos app (like a filter, or a crop).
4) If you go to the iPhone, does the edit appear?
5) If you go into Edit on the iPhone, can you adjust the crop or change the filter?
Assuming that all works you can repeat steps 1-5, but instead of using Photos, use RAW Power. That may “unstick it”.If those first steps don’t work with Photos, then perhaps there is something messed up in iCloud.
