KeymasterWow, Andy. I’m really sorry that this problem has gotten so bad you can’t use the app any more. I have not seen this problem and I haven’t gotten emails from anyone else about it. I’m completely mystified. If I figure it out, or get other people with the issue (so I can figure it out), I will contact you. Until then, I certainly understand your need to move to other apps until this can be fixed.

KeymasterHi,
Welcome to the app!
Usually, you don’t need to generate thumbnails for images – the app will pull them from the files automatically. Are you not seeing thumbnails, or perhaps they take a long time to appear?
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterYes, you can do that – copy adjustments will work between windows and between the library and file system.
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterNo, I’m not aware of this issue at all. What kind of camera(s) do you see the problem with?
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterYou can definitely export the images to the Photo Library with the adjustments applied but that will send a rendered image (like a TIFF or a JPEG). The app doesn’t have the ability to move the original + the adjustments to the library. It’s on my list of customer requests.
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterI will put it on the list for a future release.

KeymasterJPEG+RAW is Photos understanding of which image is “on top”, but it has no way of actually knowing what to display if it’s been edited by another app. Apple does not provide a way for 3rd party apps to switch R+J in a way that informs Photos. RAW Power simply is selecting the right one of the pair. In other words, there isn’t a way for RAW Power to tell Photos what badge to show.

KeymasterOK, and which OS version? This is a bug that sort of comes and goes. One of the characteristics of the bug is that the Revert to Original menu item is not enabled properly.
You could also try this with the standalone RAW Power app – it can browse the photo library too.

KeymasterTravis, what type of RAW file are you using (camera and file extension)?
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterThere is a bug in Photos with switching between R+J (I have reported it to them).
If you switch between R and J inside Photos’ Edit, then the extension gets the wrong image (and it has no ability to pick a different one).
If you switch outside of Photos Edit, and then enter edit (and then enter the extension), it should work properly.
What you wrote sounded like you were actually doing that, but other parts of your message sounds a lot like the bug I reported.

KeymasterYes, that would be good. However, that is not something that the Photo library provides efficiently. (It’s possible to get it, but not quickly). That’s why the file name isn’t shown. The “Title” that is in Photos is not provided by Apple to 3rd party apps (I’ve asked, but the request has been rejected). I would like to improve the file name display in the future.

KeymasterIf you use the Edit With feature of Photos to open the JPEG in Photoshop, it should work properly. How are you sending the image to Photoshop?

KeymasterYou’re right, the manual is out of date. As an independent (sole) developer, my time is pulled in many directions. The manual hasn’t been a priority. I have made videos for some of the newer features on YouTube (look for the Gentlemen Coders channel) (e.g., lens correction and fringe removal, etc.). That might be worth your time.
The term “smart albums” is a poorly-defined one unfortunately – Photos uses that term for a variety of albums, both system-generated and user-generated. System generated albums include media types (e.g., panoramas) as well as the RAW album. Those are accessible to apps. Photos does not provide user-generated albums to 3rd party apps, so there isn’t a way to display them.
As far as your wish list:
1. keyboard shortcut for crop – yes, that is something I’ve wanted to do for a while.2. changing the crop – crop in general has a number of issues that need to be addressed. I agree that having to confirm with Photos every time is annoying. However, there isn’t a way to approve changes only once. Apple requires it for every image. It would be possible to add a “batch” feature where you approve a group of edited images at once, but that’s the best that can be done.
3. No, the app is not provided access to keywords or titles/descriptions from Photos. I have made formal requests to Apple and spoken to people there. So far, no luck. I have provided them some suggestions – we will have to see.
4. Photos does not support the idea of modifying the original externally (or internally for that matter) – it’s non destructive. You would need to use the external editing feature of Photos.
5. It’s possible for the app to make a duplicate, but the Photos library doesn’t have specific support for that. The app would need to download everything and then create a new image. That’s doable, except that because Photos doesn’t expose keywords or titles, the duplicate would not contain the keywords or titles. Because of that I have not implemented that feature. You would need to use Photos for that.

KeymasterYou are right – the set of sorting options is quite limited. I’ll make a note for your request. Filtering might be able to give some of what you want, but it’s not the same as sorting.
A color meter is also a popular request. I need to look into it some more – I know there are some tricky parts to doing this correctly (color space, etc.).
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterNo problem. Thanks for reporting it.
