macOS 27 golden Gate issues

I suppose this may be under review, but having just installed macOS 27 on my MacBook Pro M4 (pro), I was investigating Photos new “star ratings” (decades overdue). Naturally, Apple chose to NOT look at star ratings assigned by other apps, but I was wondering if Nitro could see star ratings assigned INSIDE the AP library. So far (in very limited testing) Nitro will not open a Golden Gate version AP library and defaults back to asking for File System folders.

So if this is resolved, should we anticipate whether Nitro will see the star ratings that AP recognize?

The next update to Nitro will have full support for Apple’s 10-year-overdue support for ratings (it was in iPhoto, for Pete’s sake). It’s in beta testing now. It’s quite complicated because Nitro already has ratings, and people may use Photos to set ratings, etc. But beta testers have used it and it seems to work fine.

Actually, Nitro is now opening AP library (after reboot). It is not seeing any star ratings in Apple Photos…whether the ratings were created in AP or have ratings in the metadata created in other apps (I suppose because AP does not recognized them).

Probably posted my earlier too soon, but the issue of what Nitro will recognize in the AP library module is still an open question (in my mind).

Yes, I see a conflict could exist between Nitro’s existing star ratings and those the Apple just included. I was pretty happy to have read that Apple was finally reintroducing star ratings, but I’m not sure if I see any value if they are silo’ed to internal AP only. My “crutch” has been to assign a keyword of “1_Star” (2,3,4 or 5) to photos with those actual “star” ratings to be able to filter accordingly in AP. Apparently, I will have to continue that practice and just ignore the fact that AP wants to have its own non conforming ratings…unless you are building some functionality into Nitro to make use of them.
