    Hi Nic,

That was it. I had forgotten about setting a camera pre-set. Once I removed it, things are back to normal for me. Thanks again for your help. I really enjoy using Nitro for my photo editing.

    Thanks for you reply Joju.

I used to shoot RAW+JPEG, but wanted to try shooting only RAW. I was trying to find a workflow that allows me to shoot RAW, and apply a Preset in Nitro that would emulate the Nikon Picture controls to give me the same looking image in Nitro as I see on the camera. I don’t think that is possible though.

Thank you for the prompt reply, Nik,

I checked and my camera is set to shoot RAW, and the info for the file shows it as a .NEF file and the Raw badge is displayed on the thumbnails. It seems that when I open the RAW file some sort of preset is applied immediately to the image. I can reset all the sliders or revert to original to get to an image without any adjustments but it reverts back to the “adjusted” image if I close the image, or hit the sliders adjustment button. This wasn’t the way the program was working for me in the past. Like I said, I might have changed a setting in Nitro to cause the behavior, but I’m not sure what I might have done. I’ve seen this with a number of RAW images that I’ve added to Photos, and then opened Nitro for editing.

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi Stephan,

I’m using Nitro on my M4 Mac mini running OS 26.5 (Tahoe) and have had no issues. I hope that helps.

Thank you for all of the replies. I understand the difference between RAW And JPEG files. I wanted to know what happens to the original, camera generated JPEG after edits are applied in Nitro. From what everyone has said, those edits in Nitro are just added to camera generated JPEG, when they are saved. Back in Photos, the JPEG displayed contains the Nitro edits on top of the camera generated JPEG. If Photos is set to “Use JPEG as Original”, and I select to “revert to original”, now the JPEG should be the original camera generated JPEG, now without the Nitro edits added. Is this correct?

Thanks for all the help. I might be over thinking this.

    Thanks for your reply, Nik.
Shortly after I posted my question I found the GPS information I was looking for in Apple Photos. If one displays a single picture in Photos, then scrolls to the bottom of the screen to display the location information, there is a much larger map with the location pin and an approximate address. The address was not shown in the small “Get info” window for the image. It was this information that I saw in the Nitro EXIF information.

There must be something I don’t understand about tabbed windows. When I launch Nitro, it always opens my Photos Library. Any time I open a new Photos Library, or Finder File window it is tabbed. I tried your suggestion, but I always get tabbed windows. It’s not a big deal. I’m just trying to make sure I know how Nitro is working.

    Thanks,

Duh! I should’ve seen that. Thanks for the clarification. The sidebar was unlocked. I locked it and all is well.

    Thanks!

Thank you for the reply, Nik.
I think I figured it out. I know about the two types of windows one can use in Nitro. I just figured out that Nitro opens both types of windows when launched. The File System window was always on top, hiding the Photo Library window. I had missed this. Now I think I understand what’s going on.

Thanks for your help. So far I’m enjoying learning about Nitro.
