    Hi there,

I am using Nitro on a current iPad air and have all my pictures stored on an external usb3 ssd.

In this setup I am unhappy with the duration to open a folder.

For example I do have a folder containing 600 fotos in raw and jpeg, in total 1200 files.

The first access to this new folder from within nitro took 38 seconds, until the thumbnails are displayed. I do not worry about this time. But I expected that Nitro would create kind of a local thumbnail collection and image index to gain speed over time. As this obviously did not happen, I yesterday manually triggered both batch index images and batch create thumnails.

After this I did not see any change in performance, coming back to this folder again took 38seconds.

Today I opened that folder again which took 15 seconds one time, and then >45s another time.

    My questions:
What performance can be expected after doing everything that is required to speed things up?
Is Nitro made for the use case of scrolling, tagging, rating and then finally filtering photos in 10k numbers on an external ssd?
What exactly can I do, to get quicker responses?

Thanks everybody for best practises or performance comparison in other setups.

Sorry to hear about that performance. There are variables here, such as speed of the drive and which iPad Air, etc.

Also, the iPad USB connection varies a lot in speed from model to model.

Nitro does cache thumbnails in order to speed up display – so I would not expect it to take 38 seconds each time.

There are two tests I can think of:

    1) Copy those images to your iPad – is the app much faster or not?
    2) If you make some new folders on your SSD and put 100, 200, 400, 800 images in each folder – how does the performance change vs. the 1200?
