Nitro for iPad/iPhone and NAS

I have been recently considering adding a NAS to my workflow, more specifically a UGreen NAS. From this and other posts I see that there is an issue with using Nitro iOS and UGreen. I also apologize in advance about my NAS ignorance.

My primary use of the NAS is as a home for my photos and videos. Also part of a solution for remote access for storing and retrieving photos and videos. I would hope to edit photos and videos on both Mac & iPad, and perhaps view on iPhone.

I am wondering if it might be possible or if anyone has experience use the UGreen hardware but perhaps using something other than the native UGreen software to access the photos. Perhaps through a Docker service or by installing TrueNas onto the UGreen hardware.

Given all this I am also open to another NAS system if anyone has a recommendation.

I can’t speak to alternative software for UGreen. As far as alternative NAS, I have been gotten Synology to work (I don’t remember the model), a Raspberry Pi (!) and a Mac mini. So, a range of devices will work.
