richardb wrote: If someone already has Nitro (or Raw Power), I see little value in having ApolloOne …

I use ApolloOne to import and rename my raw files from my camera memory card to my internal SSD.

I use ApolloOne to view the JPEGs I’ve created from Nitro Photo (or DxO PhotoLab and other raw decoders that I might be testing). As good as any raw decoder’s previews are, the success of my raw edits is not proven to me until I make a JPEG, view it, and compare it with alternate treatments. ApolloOne, with its flexibility, is great for this.

I use CameraRawX (by ApolloOne’s developer) to enable Finder thumbnails and Quick Look for the compressed files from my FUJIFILM X-T5 and X-T4 cameras.

Great article! It’s about time these apps start getting some notice in the photography press!

I have Nitro open on one desktop in macOS Spaces. When I finish editing a raw photo and export a JPEG to a subfolder, I swipe right to the next desktop in macOS Spaces and view the JPEG in ApolloOne. I often target multiple subfolders and ApolloOne lets me view them all to compare different approaches I may have used on each raw file.

Hey, Jock, is the Nitro Photo app your only course of action with your 2000 photos from a camera I’d never heard of until your post?

At the moment, I (own and) depend on DxO PhotoLab 8 software for decoding, denoising, and adjusting my raw files.

But I also like to process my raws in the Nitro Photo app because I find it to be fun to use and I often can export JPEGs that I like as well or better than what I get from PhotoLab.

And I know that Nitro is a relatively new app created by a single developer as opposed to the dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of technical staff available to other makers of photo software.

In the past, I’ve subscribed to Lightroom and Photoshop and owned CaptureOne. I also currently have access to Affinity (free), DxO PhotoLab 8 (own), FUJIFILM X RAW STUDIO (free), Nitro (subscribe), Photomator (subscribe), and trials or demos of Exposure X7 and Iridient Developer. I think it is safe to say that we have more choice than ever before when it comes to photo processing software.

Unless you tell me you have spent most of your adult life developing software, I doubt your qualification to make disparaging comments about software and developers.

“Yi M1 Micro Four Thirds camera” and “the camera that I am developing which also produces DNGs”

Your post sounds very much like a problem having to do with the unusual gear that you are using. I do not experience anything like what you describe with my FUJIFILM X-T5 and FUJIFILM X-T4 cameras.

Sounds more like a request for expanded support than a feature request that most other users of Nitro would benefit from.

Have you had a look at this section in the manual? “Presets and LUTs.” Make your own preset and turn on the “Save as Camera Preset” option at the bottom.

Good question, Robert, and even better answer, Nik! That might explain why, earlier, I had called a local adjustment “a little weak.” I withdraw that comment.

Just returned home from the annual State Fair with lots of photos. The Nitro Photo app did a great job editing them and exporting JPEGs. As I continue to become familiar with how Nitro works, I find that I enjoy using it more than any of the other raw processing apps to which I currently subscribe or own. Nitro has become my go-to raw processor for my FUJIFILM X-T4 photos!

“Unsure what you mean about the local adjustments being weak”

Well, that’s my signal then to go back to the documentation and to some of my photos needing local adjustments, and give it another try. Nitro Photo works differently from other raw processors I’ve used, so it may just be that I have not yet found the correct way to use the tools!
