I have noticed that Nitro don’t open, or recognize alias files when accessed via the Nitro file system interface. If I open a file alias with an extension that is associated with Nitro from the file system, Nitro seems to be able to work with such files without any problem though (Nitro even open the image with the settings in the sidecar file of the referenced image!)
Are there any design constraints that affects Nitro functionality in relation to aliases? If not, is this something that can be added to the roadmap?

If/when aliases are supported, it would be very nice to be able to create an alias directly from Nitro interface and also get an option to add it to a specified directory, in this way we almost get a basic collection/album functionality in Nitro, would this be feasible?

Alias support is on the list for consideration, yes. Aliases have various “gotchas” which have to be worked through one by one.
