ParticipantI appreciate the enormous effort being expended on the Nitro Photo app by its talented and productive developer, Nik Bhatt. However the tools and approach to photo adjustments sometimes seem odd to me, which oddity I lay at the feet of Apple’s raw demosaic engine. Making use of the large amount of valuable and useful information in the Nitro user guide, tutorial videos, and this forum, I often get good results with raw photos that need only global adjustments. (I shoot FUJIFILM X-T4 and X-T5 cameras.)
I find the local adjustments still a little weak at this point in their development (or maybe it is just my understanding of them that is weak?) Probably related to that is my difficulty sometimes correcting skin tones. I’m not looking for (AI) masking the way Adobe does it. I prefer tools like control points and control lines and edge-aware brushes, which is similar to how the DxO PhotoLab app (my current raw processor of choice) does things.
I am happy to maintain an annual subscription to the Nitro Photo app so that I can keep an eye on the development of this fascinating and promising software!

Nik BhattKeymasterThanks for the compliments! Unsure what you mean about the local adjustments being weak – almost all of the global adjustments are available as local ones. Nitro does have edge aware brushes. It does not have control points etc. which are protected by patents (I don’t know when those expire).

Well, that’s my signal then to go back to the documentation and to some of my photos needing local adjustments, and give it another try. Nitro Photo works differently from other raw processors I’ve used, so it may just be that I have not yet found the correct way to use the tools!

ParticipantJust returned home from the annual State Fair with lots of photos. The Nitro Photo app did a great job editing them and exporting JPEGs. As I continue to become familiar with how Nitro works, I find that I enjoy using it more than any of the other raw processing apps to which I currently subscribe or own. Nitro has become my go-to raw processor for my FUJIFILM X-T4 photos!
