I have also read that these files contain a regular jpeg that will open when the ProRaw DNG wrapper is exported to a device or app not otherwise supporting ProRaw DNGs. In ExifTool these files look like linear DNGs, but I’ve not been able to find a lot of real information out there. In part, perhaps, because the early reviewers of the iPhone 16 Pro / Max were caught by surprise by this new output option and didn’t have time to make the usual comparisons.
