ParticipantI love this app. I do. But I can’t but notice so many bugs and UI elements that make no sense, honestly… also some basic features miss in spectacular fashion.
(I admire the devs for their work so to anyone, pls don’t think my tone below reflects anything but that, I just tried to keep it as short as possible.)
UI (universally good fixes):
– “Sort”, “Filter” and “Select”:
– When in a library (Files or Photos), in the top left we have the “Sort”, “Filter” and “Select” buttons. Between them and the library there is another horizontal strip where we have the “Quick Filter” and “File name” (search) buttons…. why not just put the first 3 in that same strip?
– To underline this point, when editing a photo, we keep the “Filter” and “Select” buttons in the top strip, even though we’re not seeing the library, nor the Photo Strip (the one at the bottom)… and when we do open the Photo Strip, it still comes with that bar on top of it that contains the “Quick Filter” and “File name” (search) buttons. So if we include the 3 buttons in this bar, we would only see them when actually useful and de-clutter the UI.
– “?” Question mark buttons:
– Please, just add an option in settings to remove them… I know people think they don’t need them and then they do, but if you find a button in settings to do that, you probably know the UI well enough. And it’s just clutter…
– The top bar “?” button is for “Help Topics” and “What’s New”… I like that… but those should be in the “…” top-right settings menu… not when editing. Again, clutter.
– Ai Eraser:
– “Back and Forth” buttons for different versions it generated/will now generate (or also were generated if we already went back a few versions, ofc), so we can try again for the same stroke… Some strokes are complex and take time… so especially with a not so good Ai, it’s annoying to re-draw it 5-6 times.
– Editor:
– Names of sub-menus are not bigger than elements inside them (e.g. “Perspective” is basically the same as “Set Corner Points:” text.) and so very hard to read when scrolling fast. So please… make them titles bold text.
– “Split Toning” circles should grow in size when you increase the width of the sidebar… rn it’s just the space between them just increases… (I guess increasing them could mess with your muscle memory, but that argument falls apart when you realize sliders also increase in size.)
– In each editing sub-menu, the “Undo” button also deselects the sub-menu… [In many cases, this also collapses the graphs in them… so everything shifts up/down chaotically]. Just undo… no deselect. [They’re even distinct buttons to begin with, so idk why they’re intermingled like this.]UI (let’s say subjectively good fixes):
– Place “Crop” & “Perspective” in the left sidebar or as a fifth option in the Enhance/Presents/Edit/Masks selection… [Rn they’re just cluttering the editing menu when they’re distinctively something else.]
– Accent color picker… Please :3BUGS:
– After cropping, masks with edge clipping clip to the objects in the pre-crop position. So the mask is shifted/rotated to the original photo basically.Simple Feature Requests:
– UI:
– Hiding specific editing sub-menus… in settings, when you reorder them, just add a button to each to enable/disable it. [e.g. I aways always run my RAW’s through DxO… so I never need “RAW Tuning” or “Lens”… also, I hate “Vignette” so I don’t wanna see it anyway. 😀 Some people just hate curves… you get the point… decluttering.]
– Masks:
– Smaller masking brush.
– Reordering of masksMore Complex Feature Requests:
– Adding/Subtracting Masks from Masks: allow adding/subtracting from a mask another Linear/Radian Gradient. This is something so universal idk how it’s not an option yet. [e.g. I love making rings from one Radial subtracting another Radial… or rectangle from subtracting multiple Linears…]
– Edits versions. [Pretty sure it’d be a sub-node in the .xmp file, and it would be an insanely powerful feature. Maybe it ought to have its own button in the right sidebar when it’s implemented, that’s how cool it’d be. :D]
– A better Ai Eraser… most of us got >M1 chips, even in iPads… the current Ai is instant, but I really wish it wasn’t. I wish it’d take 3-5s to do its job but do it well. Rn, it outputs sth at 1/5th the original resolution (or that’s what it looks like) and it doesn’t really fill-in the original photo that well.-

Nik BhattKeymasterThanks for the compliments. Just so you know, the entire development team is just me.
Sort, Filter and Select are in the toolbar (this is similar to photos). In general, interface elements appear above the item they affect. The quick filter and the file name filter are part of the grid and thus appear above it. When you tap to view an image, the quick filter and file name move down, because the grid turns into a film strip. Sort, Filter and Select are in the spot that people expect them to be. Quick Filter and File Name filter are advanced features.
As far Sort and Filter, etc. appearing when you are editing, you can indeed select, sort and filter at that point. Remember, Sort, select, and filter affect the current album or folder. They do not filter the library.
If you are suggesting that Help should be moved into a menu, I disagree. Help needs to be a top level item because it’s for people who aren’t familiar with the app.
AI Eraser – I do not follow what you are saying about back and forth.
Bold text for titles – that will look awful when all of the blocks are closed. I will think about adjusting font sizes though.
Split Toning circles – yes, that might help but I don’t know if people would expect that making a panel wider would also make an adjustment taller.
What is an “Accent Color Picker”?
There are some known bugs with masking and perspective. Crop, by itself, works properly with masking, I believe.
Being able to hide adjustments is on the list to do. But it will require a way for people to then add adjustments that are hidden, which has to go somewhere, and there isn’t a good spot for that right now.
Geometric operations on masks is most definitely not “universal.” I can see the value of it though but it’s non-trivial. Any mask can be brushed or erased which means that the operations are not simple geometry.
Versions is on the to do list. You can look at the roadmap on the Nitro web page to see more items (though it’s not exhaustive)
