Sorry, I think I’ve solved it. The 1* photos turned out to be photos that I had recently upgraded as a large batch from 1* to 2*, but the rating had only partially taken – the filter knew they were 2* but the thumbnails still showed them as 1*. I did a lot at the same time, and I guess I didn’t allow the system long enough to implement the change before moving on to something else.
