KeymasterThere is a specific bug when removing the sidebar or resizing the window where the scroll position is lost. That’s a bug in Apple’s code, which I have proved. If you have other cases where the app loses the scroll position, I’d like to hear about them.

KeymasterThis is a bug in Apple’s code. I was able to create a reproducible case using one of their own sample apps. I filed a bug with them some time ago. Hopefully they fix it.

KeymasterNitro will decode the image in Edit. In some situations, it will decode it while you are just viewing it. It depends on the state of the “Quick Preview” preference. If Quick Preview is OFF, then it will decode the image before Edit (which is a lot slower).

KeymasterThat is hard to say from just this description. However, what I can say is that there are multiple versions of DNG support in Apple’s decoder (at least two, and I think perhaps three). Older DNG files will be locked to an older version of the decode, which is worse than the current one.
One way to tell is to look at the Nitro’s RAW adjustment to see what sliders are present. If it’s an older DNG then you may only see a Gamut Mapping checkbox. For newer decode versions, there will noise reduction and other sliders.
If you have an image with the older decode, one simple thing you can do is to upgrade the DNG version. You can do that in DNG Converter – point it at your old DNGs and make sure to set the latest decode version (of course, do this on a copy of your older DNG). Then open it in Nitro and see how it looks and what sliders are present.

KeymasterRAW images without any processing will look flat. They are generally sharp. however.
Most RAW decoders will add some processing in order to make RAWs look pleasing to the eye, Apple’s included. Nitro has a preference that allows you to turn that off and get a more “raw” looking RAW image.

KeymasterHi,
I’m sorry to hear of this problem. I tried your steps (slightly cropping an image), but the image remained sharp after leaving crop. That said, the forum is not the great way to troubleshoot problems (it’s public, you can’t post images, etc.), so please email support@gentlemencoders.com so that I can help you more efficiently.

KeymasterBoost is already part of Auto Enhance. When an image is overexposed, then it adjusts Boost to recover highlights better. Setting the default strength to 0.5 for all images would not be desirable in many cases. Tone Map is not currently employed in Auto Enhance, but it’s a good idea. I will see what would make sense to do. Andy Hutchinson seems to have more experience with Adobe’s RAW controls, than the advanced ones in Nitro that are optimized for Apple’s decoder. Frankly, many of his criticisms were simply baffling.

KeymasterIt’s a bug in the app. It’s the app’s job to move the box out of the way when the keyboard appears. I’ll make sure it gets fixed. Thanks for reporting it.
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterI’ll make a note of your request.
Nik Bhatt
KeymasterThanks – I will get that fixed.

KeymasterI’ll put that on the list for an upcoming release. Don’t forget that there is Cmd-plus and Cmd-minus as well to zoom.

KeymasterYes, it’s on my list to fix. Sorry about that. The problem is that it’s not very reproducible. It happens and then it stops happening as I’m trying to figure it out! You might try moving the windows (or resizing them) and then closing them. That might work around the problem.

KeymasterI will try to add the scroll wheel support for the filmstrip in an upcoming release.

KeymasterI don’t preserve certain settings on purpose because they have a tendency to confuse less experienced (or less frequent) users. For example, filters are discarded when you restart the app. That’s because people sometimes filter their images, forget and then wonder “where did all the images go?”. This is very understandable, especially if they aren’t using the app every day. With Show Subfolders, it’s similar. It is a common behavior for people, when faced with an app doing something they don’t want, to quit and reopen hoping the “bug” goes away, even though there is no bug. So, if they have turned on subfolders and pick something large, like their hard disk or a network share, then the app will spin for a while. Quitting and reopening will just start over again, which is very frustrating.
So, the short answer is maybe. I figure that avoiding this problem for inexperienced users is a good trade off vs. the annoyance of having to pick the button each time to turn it back on.

KeymasterThe G9 II will be supported in the next update of Nitro. The problem was that the G9 II and the GH6 use a new format for storing the camera data. As usual, Panasonic (like other camera companies) does not document the format or help 3rd parties decode them. It takes time to reverse engineer the format and add support.
Fortunately, I am not constrained by Apple’s camera release schedule because I have the ability to extend Apple’s RAW decoder (which is unique to Nitro and RAW Power).
