Feature 4 would be useful: to detect metadata changes, in particular rating changes.

Otherwise I strongly agree with Karl Nyhus. Building a DAM is a whole other project and will leave Mr Bhatt with little time to improve Nitro (for which I’ve paid twice, due to the shenanigans with RAW Power). Fast RAW viewer, NeoFinder, Finder, ApolloOne are all very affordable or free tools to manage images and metadata. For serious metadata work, it’s a full time job, as the complexity of PhotoMechanic indicates. And PhotoMechanic regularly runs into serious metadata bugs despite twenty years and a multiple person development team only working on metadata.

What I would like to see in a similar vein is to reduce the dependence, even insistence on Apple Photos. I no longer use Apple Photos and dearly wish that Nitro would not insist on the Apple Photos database by default. I had to create an Apple Photos database to allow Nitro would open.

With the price of Apple storage this would be a great idea. If it’s just cache, the fallback if external cache is chosen but is not present (could happen) could be to create a temporary cache for the session, which is deleted when Nitro is closed.

The other self-inflicted wound to look out for would be to make sure that the external disk is fast enough. Nitro could run a mini-test to make sure it is before setting cache to an external disk.

    Hi Rosemary,

The golden rule for multimedia is never use a beta OS, even better never use the current OS. Stay at least one version behind. Before the software developers stopped supporting older versions, I’d suggest staying two versions behind.

I’d be a fan of just opening up single images for editing. Nitro is not the centre of my photo editing, but there are often photos for which I’d like to try Nitro without bringing in the whole folder. Autosave to sidecar is fine.
